Current Netflix Obsessions | 3 Shows You Need To Watch

7th September 2018

To give you a little insight into what my life is like, it goes something like this. I’ll see boyf at the weekends and chill and have some QT with him (which is mega cute obvs) but feel a little guilty that I’ve done no blogging work. I’ll be on my own during the week, fanny around for 4 hours and feel guilty I’ve done no blogging work. And repeat. Forever.

I’m such a procrastinator, and of late I’ve come to realise that I have to either; commit to the laziness and not feel guilty about what I’ve neglected, or nip the lazy in the bud. And this surge of productivity usually comes at 12:04am (the current time as I type these words).

So when the laziness wins for the evening, it’s usually a case of pouring myself a glass of Pepsi Max with some kind of delicious snack, sprawling over my bed and Netflix. For the most part I’m a big ol’ fan of a documentary, however recently there have been some right cracking series that I feel I have to share. Don’t worry, no spoilers I pinky promise.

The Alienist

WHAT. A. FUCKING. SHOW. Sweet mother of God I was hooked on this show within the first 10 minutes, and that is no small feat for someone as easily distracted as myself. Possibly one of the best crime shows I’ve seen in a long LONG time.

The series is set in 1896 New York, with a ritualistic killer responsible for the murder and mutilations of boy prostitutes. Newly appointed police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt sets up a secret team compiled of criminal psychologist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, newspaper illustrator John Moore and the first female to work in the police department Sara Howard to try and solve the case.

It’s dark, it’s gritty, it leaves you on the edge of your seat. And in all honesty, I’m pretty bloody gutted it’s over for me. And I’m absolutely gagging for a second season.

Brooklyn 99

If you ever watched the Lonely Island music videos on YouTube back in the day, this one’s for you. The star of classics like ‘Jizz In My Pants’, ‘I’m On A Boat’ and ‘Jack Sparrow’ Andy Samberg plays Detective Jake Peralta of the Brooklyn 99 police department.

The 20 minute episodes are an insight into the team dynamics, the crimes they solve and are all bloody hilarious. They’re the perfect ‘easy watching’ series, you don’t have to concentrate too hard, they’re laugh out loud funny and I’m hooked.

Sons of Anarchy

This is mine and Ben’s ‘current viewing’. I think if you ask any couple at any given time, there’s a series they’re making their way through. And seeing as Game of Thrones isn’t going to be back for another year *gently wipes tears*, we’ve had to move on.

Ben has already watched this start to finish about 38 times, but he’s reliving it for my benefit. The series is focused around Jax Teller, the son of one of the founding members of the Sons of Anarchy motorcycle club in Charming, California. The series go into the lawlessness of the club, their dealings with opposing gangs with guns and drug trades, and the conflict Jax feels throughout it all.

If you’re looking for a series where you cannot tell where the next episode is going to take you, which is brutal and bloody and sometimes even ‘put you off your dinner’ violent. This one is for you. It is so cleverly written, and so fricken good I cannot praise it enough. Ben and I have blitz 4 seasons in only a few weeks. And 1 of those weeks I was abroad.

I love Brooklyn 99! It’s such a great show, and like you say, easy to watch and so damn funny! 🙂 Don’t worry too much about the lack of blogging mojo. It seems to be making the rounds. Blog when you feel like it and enjoy the laziness when you need it! 😀

  3. I absolutely LOVE SOA!!!!!! It is amazing!!!! I’ve watched it through at least 5 times! It is definitely unpredictable and I love that!
