Makeup Stars 2017 | Best Discoveries Of The Year

12th December 2017

So recently there was a little thing circulating around Twitter, a photo of yourself at the beginning of the year to now. And in all honesty, I can’t actually believe how far my makeup has come in just one year, without actively trying as well – as ya girl is lazy AF. And it prompted me to think, I don’t think it’s actually me developing skills, as much as finding magical products that do the work for me. The better solution, in my opinion. And definitely since having the blog I have been expanding my collection ten-fold/ spending excessively in the name of ‘research’. And so I’ve rounding up my makeup stars 2017, as sharing is caring. If I can help one lazy AF girl out there, then that’s my mission complete.

NYX Tame & Frame Brow Pomade

This lil guy right here is the sole reason my eyebrows have any definition, and aren’t sad face slugs. My brows have always something I’ve struggled with, as they’re incredibly dark but incredibly sparse. I literally have an eyebrow comb over, it’s emosh. So moulding them into these thick and full brows that have been on trend for what seems forever, is quite the task. However, ‘Tame & Frame’ just strolled into my life and turned it on its head. The formula is so creamy, it’s extremely easy to use to create whatever look tickles your pickle. And as it is so creamy, it makes for incredibly smooth lines to fashion hair strokes. Goodbye face slugs, hello arched babies.

Benefit Gimme Brow

This guy is the perfect companion to the ‘Tame & Frame’. As I said about my brow comb over (sadness) the Gimme Brow is essentially mascara for your eyebrows, it paints on your existing hairs and makes them fuller as well as calming the rogue hairs that just decide they want to be at a perfect 180 degree angle from where they’re meant to live. It’s also perfect for the days when you want a more ‘au natural’ look/canny be bothered to make the effort.

NYX Ultimate Eyeshadow Palettes

If you’ve spent more than 47 seconds in the beauty blogger community, you’ll hear of only a handful of eyeshadow palettes. Modern renaissance by ABH, Huda Beauty palettes, Juvia’s Place palettes and anything Urban Decay have ever done, ever. Can you even call yourself a beauty blogger if you haven’t got at least 2 of the Naked palettes? There isn’t much hype around budget or highstreet brands palettes, and I’m here to change that. I’ve purchased and fallen in love with 2 of NYX’s Ultimate Eyeshadow palettes; Ultimate Brights and Ultimate Warm Neutrals. The colours in both are incredibly pigmented, they’re such high quality so there’s minimal fall out so you don’t end up having it down your shirt, and they blend like fricken butter. I cannot wait to try more of them out as they’re released, and I suggest you go and give them a swipe if you’re walking past a NYX stall!

Makeup Revolution Highlighters

2017 for me has been the year I’ve embarrassingly obsessed over Makeup Revolution as a whole, however their highlighters take it to the next level. They’re so cheap and genuinely SO good. I’ve built up quite the collection, and they seem to be the only ones I gravitate to for any look. My absolute faves are the Skin Kiss Highlighers in Ice Kiss & Golden Kiss and the Liquid Highlighter. The Ice Kiss is a stunning white shade, ideal for my pale babes to give that dewy and perfect skin hue. And Golden Kiss I have reserved exclusively for the summer months, seeing as the second the sun leaves for Autumn it takes any trace of my tan with it. It gives you all the bronzed goddess vibes and I for one, am here for that. And finally, the light of my life, the wind beneath my wings, my angel of music, the Makeup Revolution Liquid Highligher in Starlight. Jesus, Mary and Joseph it’s magnificent. If you could bottle pure joy and moonbeams, this would be it. It’s so bright, so longwearing, so blendable and OMG I’M GONNA CRY AT HOW MUCH I LOVE IT!

NYX Suede Lip Liners

Can you tell there’s a bit of a NYX theme? NYX really has been my go-to brand this year. If ever I’m looking to be bold and try something new, they will be the ones I go to, as their products consistently deliver. Minus their liquid liner, but we don’t need to go into that. As a representative for the thinner lipped girls, I feel that these liners should be a PSA. They really are something to behold, they apply to effortlessly, they don’t dry the lips out and the colour pay off and selection is next to none. I’ve currently got 4 on the go, with my favourite shades being Los Angeles and London, and my mission is to have my own display of them. They’re outstanding.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

On a serious note, I’ve tried 5 different mascaras this year, 5. And of those 5 I whittled it down to my 2 favourites. It was a close call between the Too-Faced ‘Better Than Sex Mascara’ and Benefit ‘Roller Lash’ however, Roller Lash for me delivered every single time. It is minimal effort for those long fluttery lashes that we all want. Although slightly on the pricer side of things, however this is my first full size tube. The baby mini has only just dried up and I purchased it in the early summer, it’s magical. It doesn’t go too clumpy, it just drags your lashes up as well as giving them a big ol’ curl that actually holds the whole day. Because who has time for getting the eyelash curler out and potentially cutting off all their eyelashes every morning? NAHT ME.

Stila ‘Stay All Day’ Waterproof Liquid Liner

Here she is. My absolute queen. The shining jewel in the crown of 2017, the best liquid liner ever ever ever. I’m a fiend for a good winged liner look, it’s become my go-to. Whatever look I’m sporting I’m 98.6% sure it can be improved by drawing a fierce looking wing. However, finding a liner that supports me on my mission has been somewhat emotional. Either the pen dries out mid way, the colour starts to fade or the nib isn’t precise enough for that ‘this could cut you’ look I want to rock. Well, the Almighty heard my cries and send down this saviour. It’s perfect. The pen never dries out, it stays a crisp black, the nib is so defined that I’m able to achieve the sharpest of lines, and it doesn’t bloody transfer to your eyelid as the day progresses. She is my number 1 find for 2017 and probably forever. The love is so deep that I found my original pen in my makeup bag and her lid had fallen off and she’d shrivelled up, and my bottom lip started to wobble. An absolute makeup bag essential!

I’ve been considering getting the NYX shadow palette, as I have heard great things about them! I’ll definitely give them another look! 😀

The stila liquid liner is 100000% the best liquid eyeliner on the market. I’ve tried KVD and other ones and NO OTHER liner stays on my oily eyelids all day without budging at all. Great post 🙂

  4. I also love the Stila Stay All Day liner! Other favorites have been Bare Mineral Gen Nude Liquid Lips and the Tarte Tarteiest mascara 🙌🏻

    Great post! Xo Lauren
