How I Clean My Makeup Brushes

30th June 2017

Hey love bugs! Is there anything more tedious then having to clean your makeup brushes? I couldn't agree more. I think everyone tries to stretch it out as long as you can, however it really is so beneficial. Not only for the application of your makeup, but all the gross germs and bacteria that make their homes on your dirty makeup brushes. That being said, I have discovered a way of cleaning my brushes pretty speedily, and a fraction of the price. So let's get into how I clean my makeup brushes!

Baby Shampoo

You heard right, and you've probably heard it so many times. But it is honestly like Holy water when it comes to brush cleaning. It's so cheap, it lasts for ages and it is so gentle on your expensive makeup brushes. It eliminates germs and leaves your brushes with that fresh, new brush smell.

Johnson's baby shampoo

Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Palette, RRP £12.99

This is without a doubt, one of my greatest investments when it comes to makeup application and skincare. It is so quick and easy to use. You basically slip your hand into the grip of the palette. Fill the palette with enough water to cover the ridges. Put your baby shampoo on your brush and depending on the size of your brush work it into the ridges (small brushes go onto the small ridges, etc etc). It just pulls all of the makeup and dirt out and makes them brand new without much effort in the least. If you'd like the check the palette out, click here.

Put to the test

To show you how well this combination works together, I've done a before and after shot of my manky brushes and once they're all fresh. I also timed myself, to my 4 brushes from start to finish it wasn't even 4 minutes … less than a minute a brush. Because there are plenty of more important things you could be doing than dedicating an evening to brush washing!
