Birchbox April 2018 Unboxing | Cath Kidston Edition

22nd April 2018

So it turns out Cath Kidston and I share a birth year. We were both born in 1993, meaning that we are both a quarter of a century this year. Cake all round. And to celebrate this huge milestone, they have collaborated with Birchbox to bring ‘a little sunshine to your month’ (how f’ing cute).

ModelCo – Baked Highlighter in Moonshine

This was the product that we got to select ourselves this month, and I am feelin’ this highligher. It’s super pigmented, a gorgeous golden shade now that we’re (fingers crossed) finally leaving the darkness of winter behind us, and it’s mini. This little baby is going to be taking up full time residency in my handbag beauty essentials bag.

Beautaniq Beauty – Fill & Tame Brow Gel in Brunette

This could not have come at a better time, I’ve been scrapping round the crusty remains of my Benefit Gimme Brow for an estimated 3 months. And let’s just say I think I was more combing my brows rather than taming.

The colour for me is a little fair upon first application, however once it dries down it blends in perfectly with my brows natural shade. And my lord, it makes my rogue eyebrow hairs its bitch. They are not moving all day, regardless of how much I sweat at my spin class.

It’s also made with a vegan formula for those opting for the cruelty free route, and as it is all natural it doesn’t leave you with crunchy brows that you have to really scrub off at the end of the day.

Cath Kidston – Hand Cream

This is the very definition of ‘cute packaging’, even if the cream itself was utter trash the design redeems it. It’s the perfect size just to chuck into your bag as you’re running out of the door, and it smells what I imagine a sophisticated woman’s hands would smell like.

Percy & Reed – Reassuringly Firm Session Hold Hairspray

As first world problems go, mine are pretty centered around hairspray. On the odd occasion I do try and tame my mane, I find it difficult to find a hairspray that gives me the hold I want, without my hair either; a) gaining 32,895 flyaway’s, b) becoming really heavy and flat (defeating the object entirely) c) the hold not being strong enough and it all falling back to its default setting.

You see my conundrum?

However this little baby has been the answer to my prayers, not only does it keep my hair feeling light yet secured in its style, it tackles frizz and flyaway’s. DREAMS CAN COME TRUE, YOU KNOW YOU’VE GOT TO HANG ON, YOU KNOW YOU’VE GOT TO BE STRONG.

Marcelle – BB Cream Golden Glow Illuminator

A BB cream that can blur imperfections, fine lines, reduce shine and boost your radiance? Well colour me impressed. With Britain’s reintroduction to the sun, wearing foundation and a multitude of face makeup is seemingly less and less appealing. My mind instantly goes to the ‘but you’ll just sweat it off, so why bother?’ mentality in summer, and so I’ve been on the hunt for a BB cream. And this gem seems like it’s up for the challenge.

The formulation feels light and non greasy, I imagine this will be my go-to when I just want to air-brush my complexion a little before heading out. And I am buzzing to say the least.

And finally the lovelies at Cath Kidston have given out a 15% discount code, using the code ‘BIRCHBOX’ at the checkout. I think it’s high time I investigate the delicious ‘1993’ slogan sweatshirt they have, however it’s more likely to be a £3.50 lanyard at this rate. At least my word ID badge will be well accessorised.
