Frankenstein’s Bride Makeup | Gory Halloween Tutorial

26th October 2017

Really girly looks are lovely and everything, but sometimes you just want something with a little more of an authentic Halloween feel. Sometimes all you want is a bit of gore and a bit of fake blood, something that will make people do a double take. And so I’ve created this semi gory look that still has you looking cute AF. So let’s get into Frankenstein’s bride Halloween makeup look!

First of all, as always you’re going to want to do your base makeup and brow routine (if you need some inspo check out my glam full face routine).

Eyes

As we’re going for a sunken and ‘dead’ look, I decided that a solid black smokey eye would be perfect, with a pop of red. I went straight in with the black shade from the Makeup Revolution Flawless Mattes Palette, and worked this slightly above the crease, over the lid and under the water line. It doesn’t have to be precise as we’re going for a messy and realistic look. (As realistic as Frankenstein’s bride would look anyway!). Once that’s done, I went around the black edges with the bright red shade from the NYX Ultimate Brights Palette and blended the two together.

Next, you already know what’s coming. That’s right. Winged liner. When is there ever not a good time for a winged liner? Never. I have been using and loving the L’Oreal Perfect Slim Liquid Eyeliner, the colour is crisp and the nib doesn’t dry out. It’s glorious. And then I filled in my water liner with my trusty Estee Lauder Double Wear Eye Pencil.

Now we’re going to really start to add the dead effects. Using the NYX Suede Lip Liner in ‘Los Angeles’, I drew soft and subtle veins coming from the eyes down to around my cheekbone. I chose this colour as it ties in with the red tones in the eyeshadow. However a brighter red, green or blue would all work beautifully. And the final step is the slap on some large and in charge lashes, I went with my beloved Ardell Whispies.

Cut

Right, this is where it starts to get a little tricky. Using the liquid eyeliner draw a line from your cheekbone to your mouth. I didn’t stencil or anything, I just committed to drawing my line. I know, what a fearless devil I am. Once you’ve drawn this, using the same shades you did for your eyeshadow, create the same look under this line. This will give the illusion of some kind of injury, that we will soon be sewing up!

Once that’s done, with your liquid liner again you’re going to draw slightly curved lines to create stitches. Now this is the bit I found the hardest, using white liquid eyeliner you’re going to put this next to the lines you’ve just drawn. This will give it a metal looking effect. Mine ended up quite scruffy, but it’s all part of the look. If they go wrong you can always tidy it up with the black and try again. For this I used the NYX White Liquid Liner. And to finish it off I popped a little black dot at the top of each stitch to give the illusion that it has penetrated the skin.

Lips

What says Halloween look more than black lips? I used the NYX Suede Lip Liner in the shade ‘Stone Fox’, which is a gorgeous grey shade, that compliments Rimmels Colour Sensational Lipstick in 888 ‘Pitch Black’ perfectly. This combination is magical for me, as it’s the first dark look I’ve been able to create that doesn’t expose the inside of my lip. Anyone hate being able to see the pink of someone’s lip when they’re wearing lipstick too?

Fake blood

You could leave the look here if you wanted to keep your face stain free. But what fun would that be? I used the Primark Fake Blood, that cost me a whopping £1 sterling. I drew this along the stitches and a next to my mouth and left it quite thick, so it was able to drip down my face naturally. And you are now officially married to Frankenstein!
