6 Months Of Birchbox | What Actually Gets Used?

30th November 2017

It’s been 6 months since my little pickle of a sister got me a years subscription to Birchbox for my birthday. And every box that has arrived on my doorstep, I like many others do an unboxing post, going through that months goodies. So like the nosey parker I am, I look at what others have got in the various beauty subscription boxes the market is being filled up with. And I always think to myself, do you actually use that? So I thought I would answer my own question, in the 6 months I’ve been receiving Birchbox boxes, what actually gets used?

Makeup

So in all honesty, for a ‘beauty box’ I haven’t received as much makeup as my inner addict would like. However from the few bits I have got, they’ve been pretty banging. First we have the Spectrum A05 brush, which is absolutely perfect for chiseling out those cheekbones. There’s so much hype around these brushes, and I’m definitely a fan girl.

Next up is the Benefit Hoola bronzer, again another cult classic and rightly so. It’s a glorious bronzer and gives you that naturally sun-kissed look without turning you into a tangerine.

And finally, this gorgeous rose gold shade eyeshadow/highlighter/blush called Fantasy from Mannakadar Beauty. It’s perfect for this time of year when the leaves are falling and we all need a bit of colour in our lives. The formulation is so creamy and blendable, I’m surprised I haven’t heard more about them. None the less, it has been graduated to my full time makeup bag, a real honour.

Haircare

I’m late to the Percy & Reed party, but fashionably late and all that! I’ve received 2 products from them, the ‘No Oil Oil’ which is basically a glorious serum without the grease. And as a oily hair representative, you have my thanks. And then we also have the Wonder Balm, which is essentially witchcraft , it seems to make styling your hair so much more manageable with longer lasting results. I could honestly give Percy & Reed a sloppy kiss at how much they’ve upped my hair game.

And then the final haircare item is the Beauty Protector, Protect & Detangle spray. Which is a triple threat, it’s a heat defense, it’s a leave in conditioner AND it smells like what I imagine rich people’s hair smells like. I feel fancy AF everytime I wash my hair.

Skincare

When I say skincare, that covers all the skin on your body, not just yo face. So I actually have 2 hand creams, yes, 2. The first up is the Cowshed, Cow Pat hand cream, and in all honesty I’m not sure how I feel about it. It does a fab job at keeping my skin from cracking, but the smell just doesn’t tickle my pickle. It still lives in my handbag and still gets used 2809 times a day. And then the Clarins Hand & Nail Treatment cream, which is my before bed hand cream. I’ve become that person that puts on hand cream before bed, am I an adult now? And it does a splendid job as well as not confusing my nostrils with its scent.

Next up the Whish Mud Mask. Hot damn I love a mud mask. It’s not as thick and heavy as traditional masks, and it seems to work so well for my skin. It even reduces the size of my pores, and nothing seems to be able to do that! (on a side note if anyone can recommend some products to reduce pore size, hit me up PLZ).

And last but by no means least, my most used and loved product. The Dr.PawPaw Original Balm. It’s a moisturizer for everything, your lips, your hands your elbows, literally whatever you want. I haven’t stopped using it since the minute it fell through my letterbox. I can’t have a life without it now.

I would love to get a yearly subscription to something like this! Getting subscription boxes just feels like mini presents haha! It’s good that you seem to be still using most of the products. I’ve only got one or two subscription boxes this year and I’m still making my way through all of them 🙂

  2. Every so often I get a Mannakadar Beauty product in one of my Ipsy bags, which always makes me happy!! ♥

  3. I got the Dr. PawPaw balm in a Dutch subscription box a while back and I also absolutely love it, can’t live without it!
